Welcome to the Department of Texas, District# 12
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members, men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.

Together, members of The American Legion (AL), The American Legion Auxiliary (AUX)and the Sons of The American Legion (SAL) make up what is known as The Legion Family.

All three organizations place high importance on preserving our American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly, teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.

Also, as part of the American Legion Family, we have the American Legion Riders (ALR) Group, which is comprised of members from all of the above family organizations. Our goal is the promotion of safe motorcycling through education, participation in events, and enthusiastic support of all the aims and purposes of our parent American Legion organization.
