America Legion Post 60 Arlington Texas

A Pledge to Service

Still Serving: It's Who We Are !

In 1919, The American Legion was founded on four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Each of these pillars encompasses a variety of programs that benefit our nation’s veterans, its service members, their families, the youth of America and ordinary citizens. These programs make a difference in hundreds of thousands of lives each year.
Our organization’s positions and programs are guided by resolutions passed by American Legion National Convention delegates, and by committee and commission members who represent 2.5 million wartime veterans and their families. These programs, and the men and women who take the time to perform them allow The American Legion to make a difference on the local, state and national levels.
It’s who we are and what we do.

Both Post 60 and the Elks DID not get a cookie drop this year, according to information I just received.
I had a comment about that in my newsletter and maybe we might want to send something out to the members.

Apparently the Girl Scouts did not sell enough cookies this year.

VA and Walgreens Team Up to Provide Flu Vaccinations to Veterans Flu Season is here! Veterans protect yourselves and get a NO COST flu shot! The cold and flu season is upon us and the Department of Veterans Affairs has once again teamed up with Walgreens Pharmacies nationwide to allow all veterans who are currently enrolled in the VA healthcare system to be able walk into any of the over 8000 Walgreens nationally (and the Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York metropolitan area) to receive a vaccination at no cost. Vaccinations will be available through March 31, 2018. Veterans wishing to receive the no cost vaccination simply need to present a Veterans Identification Card and a photo ID, at any participating Walgreens to receive the vaccination. The Group ID is: VAFLU In addition, after the Walgreens pharmacist administers the vaccine Walgreens will transmit that information securely to VA where it becomes part of the patient’s electronic medical record. VA is committed to keeping Veteran patients healthy, and during this flu season, vaccination is the best way to prevent the spread of flu. No matter where you live, visit your local VA clinic or Walgreens to get a no cost flu shot. • To find your local VA, visit • To locate a Walgreens store near you, call 800-WALGREENs (800-925-4733), or go to com/findastore. • To learn more about the partnership, call 1-877-771-8537 or visit To get more information on flu and flu vaccine, visit or Thank you, John Header Commander, Arlington Post 60 We are now 2 months into the 2017-2018 American Legion year and there is a lot of stuff going on down at the Post/Lodge. Check out the upcoming dates where we have events scheduled. Get Involved!! It can be a lot of fun. The Post has just started a major fund raiser raffle to restock our financial levels in order to continue with our charitable donations. Last year we donated quite a bit to various charities and the tank has run a little dry. If we can have a successful raffle, we should be in good shape for the remainder of the year. A bit about the raffle: We are raffling off a “Large Green Egg Grilling Machine”. This grill is valued at about $900.00 retail. Tickets are $10.00 each, 3 for $20, and 8 for $50. Tickets have arrived and are already being sold. Check out the Green Egg on Google. Type in Green Egg Grill and it will bring you to the website. We will be selling tickets at our business meetings, Post burger nights, and Post breakfasts. Or….you can call me at 817-401-1914 or…..send me a message at If every member would buy a $10.00 ticket, this raffle would be a success. July 2017 ended with a bang as the Post sponsored a breakfast on July 29th. We had a good day with 64 meals served. Thanks to everybody that came in to eat. Also, we had plenty of volunteers that came in to prepare everything. Volunteers came from the Post, Riders, and ALA Unit 60. Without help from volunteers we would not be able to do these things. As I mentioned in our last meeting on July 27th, we have traded burger night cooking duties with Boy Scout Troop 396. Effective August 1st, we will sponsor burger night on the 1st Tuesday each month, in place of the 3rd Tuesdays. A big thank you to Andre Hanekamp for taking on the duties of “Sgt at Arms” for the Post. Now, if I could just find a 2nd Vice Commander. Any takers? By now, most of you are aware of the big raffle we have going on. To update, we have sold enough tickets to be pretty close to break even. We still have quite a bit of time left before the drawing date. Many thanks to those of you who have bought tickets. If you have not yet, don’t miss out on this deal. Going into August, the Post will sponsor breakfast on the 6th and the 20th of the month. Come on down. For 6 bucks, you can’t get a better deal. Open from 0900 till 1130. See you at the Post, John Header Commander
